So not only did you teach me about writing memoir, you also taught me about reading and thinking about how others write memoir. Thank you so much! Rebecca

Homework Assignment - Write a Portrait

What a busy week! With family visiting and my creative writing class each week, I have let my blogging slide.
This week, for homework, my students are writing a two page portrait of someone in their past or present and using as many of the five senses as they can to show, not tell, us about this person.
Smells - does he have body odor? Does she reek of too much perfume? What about the smell of tobacco?
Touch - Can you show us texture? What sounds are associated with this person?
Taste? Sight?
I look forward to reading the descriptions or seeing the portrait painted with words from each of those attending next week.

Why not give this assignment a try?
